Wednesday, September 24, 2003 - 10:41 p.m.

The other day, I was crossing the street and a boy in his late teens came riding a blue bike from the other side. As he passed by me and a man walking his dog, he shouted, "THOMAS... THE TANK ENGINE!!" (In Japanese, of course.) I wonder if it was a dare or something....

Top Three recent fears:

3) A big earthquake in Tokyo. There have been predictions...
2) Getting run over by a cylist on the sidewalk.
1) Opening the door of the unisex bathroom at my workplace and finding a male in there who forgot to lock the door.

Apparently there are purple M&Ms now. eek.

Thursday, September 11, 2003 - 06:28 p.m.

I had this great argument with my co-workers about something really stupid....

The existence of the tan M&Ms.

It all started with one co-worker (Australian) saying that she missed Mars Bars, which are relatively difficult to get in Japan. I said I missed 100 Grand Bars and then another co-worker (British) made a blasphemous comment about Hershey's chocolate and said he missed Cadburys. Then I asked them which type of M&M they liked best- plain, peanut, almond or the crunchy stuff, and my Australian co-worker said she has never seen peanut (or was it almond?) M&Ms. Then... I asked my co-workers if they missed the tan M&M*:

Co-worker A (British male): ....We had Smarties. I dunno about M&Ms, they're inferior.

Co-worker B (Australian male): What's "tan"??

Co-worker C (Canadian male): I think they only had them in the seasonal packages.

Co-worker D (Australian female): No, but aren't there purple* M&Ms?

....They also didn't believe me when I said that there was a time when there were no red M&Ms*!!!

* Tan M&Ms did exist. The blue ones replaced them. Evil blue ones! The tan were my favorite!!!
* Red M&Ms were taken off the market long time ago because there was a scare that the red dye caused cancer, but they brought them back in 1987 or so.
* Not that I know of.
